The extrusion process

Gruppo Profilati owns 4 extrusion plants among the most modern and innovative in the sector.
1800-ton press.
2200-ton press.
2350-ton press.
4400-ton press.
Plant specifications
With a view to continuous technological renewal, a one-of-a-kind plant was installed in recent years at the Medicina facility, capable of managing the entire production process in a fully automated manner, from extrusion to heat treatment and packaging of the finished product.
The main aluminum alloys used are:
- EN AW 6060 (AlMgSi0,5)
- EN AW 6063 (AlMg0,7Si)
- EN AW 6005/A (AlMgSi0,7)
- EN AW 6082 (AlMgSi1)
- EN AW 6026 LF (AlMgSiBi)
Quality customer service

All production phases are constantly monitored, and these checks also extend to external suppliers who are subject to periodic audits by the company's quality control department.
The traceability of every Gruppo Profilati product is guaranteed by applying all steps outlined in the internal quality control manual, which all company departments follow in performing their duties.
- Chemical analysis of alloys
- Dimensional inspection with optical systems
- Dimensional inspection with automated optical scanning systems
- Dimensional inspection with manual measurement systems
- Brinell hardness testing
- Inspection of heat treatment thicknesses
- Tensile testing
Operational excellence is supported by an integrated management system, complying with the main international standards:
- ISO 9001: quality and continuous improvement;
- EN 15088 (CE marking): compliance for structural applications
- ISO 45001: occupational health and safety protection (Bologna)
- ISO 14001: environmental management and sustainability (Teramo)
- EPD: Environmental Product Declaration 1
- EPD: Environmental Product Declaration 2
- Integrated Quality and Safety Policy
Thermal treatment

Once the extrusion process is completed, the profiles undergo an aging treatment in an oven for approximately 5-7 hours at a temperature between 180°C and 185°C, thus achieving the required mechanical characteristics.
The new production facility in Medicina features two modern and sophisticated aging ovens with continuous operation and innovative, fully automated profile handling.
This system ensures a significant increase in production levels while guaranteeing maximum quality at the same time.
Assembly of the thermal break profiles

Gruppo Profilati offers a thermal break assembly service, featuring new machinery capable of monitoring the assembly of every single bar, supported by highly experienced personnel, in compliance with European standards EN 14024.
The EKU thermal break is made using glass-fiber reinforced polyamide strips, a high-insulation material inserted between the inner and outer extruded aluminum profiles of the frame, interrupting thermal bridging and significantly reducing heat loss and temperature fluctuation.
The finishing operations

To complete the service offered to its Clients, Gruppo Profilati provides various surface finishing options for extruded aluminum profiles. The Group relies on reliable and proven external partners. All are highly specialized companies that guarantee top-tier quality standards, complying with the quality labels Qualicoat for coating and Qualanod for anodizing, offering countless aesthetic possibilities, including:
- Powder coatings and sublimation: finishes in RAL colors and wood effect
- Anodizing and electro-coloring
- Polishing, sandblasting, scratching, brushing
All profiles that have undergone a surface finishing process are carefully inspected and supervised upon receipt, ensuring optimal quality and full compliance with applicable European standards.
Packaging and logistics

Special attention is paid to profile packaging to ensure maximum protection and optimal handling. A barcode is applied to each bundle, containing all data necessary for batch traceability, from the production date back to the raw material used.
In the new Medicina production plant, there is a unique packaging department in the sector which, to optimize times and production quality, features fully automated handling and packaging of extruded bars.
At the Teramo plant, on the 4400-ton press, material up to 14 meters long can be packaged in-line. The plant is also equipped with an in-line cutting machine, allowing smaller lengths to be obtained with tolerances of +/- 0.3 mm directly from the press.
All material, packaged according to client specifications, is carefully stored in the warehouse dedicated to industrial profiles awaiting shipment.
Furthermore, according to Article 219, paragraph 5, of the Consolidated Environmental Act (Legislative Decree 152/2006), as of January 1, 2023, all packaging must be "appropriately labeled in accordance with procedures established by applicable UNI technical standards [...]".

Warehouse for building systems

To ensure maximum efficiency, a space of over 3,000 sqm has been dedicated to building systems, where more than 2,000 items, including aluminum profiles and accessories, are stored on specialized racking.
Clients can thus rely on the service offered by the "Ready-to-ship Warehouse" for their material supply needs, even for small batch quantities.
Modern racking holds over 2,000 items always in stock for Gruppo Profilati clients.
